The Ingredient Glossary

Cherry Wood

Cherry Wood

In woodworking, cherry wood is used for high-end products and adds a bright and cheerful presence to your space. Cherry blossoms and berries seem to infuse their joy directly into the wood, which is harvested in Pennsylvania.
Beeswax

Beeswax

Packed with nutrients, we really love beeswax for its holding power. It creates a soft, breathable barrier that keeps moisture in the skin. It helps with skin elasticity, cell health, and hydration, and it’s always our first choice for sensitive skin. We source our wax from pure honeycomb cappings, harvested at local apiaries practicing regenerative agriculture.
Fractionated Coconut Oil

Fractionated Coconut Oil

We prefer virgin coconut oil for cooking or skincare, but it easily goes rancid. The fractionating process creates an odorless, flavorless, and highly shelf-stable product to restore wooden goods. It’s still a natural option and preferred to palm oils or chemical-based wood restoring agents.

Frequently Asked Questions About Wooden Baby Spoons (FAQs)

Cherry Wooden Baby Spoon

Are Wooden Baby Spoons Sanitary?

Yes, it’s perfectly safe to eat with wooden spoons, and they even have natural antimicrobial properties. Of course, proper care is important, and you should always wash your spoon with hot water and soap after every use.

How to Care for a Wooden Spoon

Natural wood dries out over time and needs a conditioning agent to keep it soft. Most brands use mineral oils, but we prefer a blend of fractionated coconut oil and beeswax to add moisture back into the wood grain. You’ll want to condition your wood products about every two weeks, or anytime they look dry.

Can Wooden Spoons Go in the Dishwasher?

Wooden spoons ask for a little more intentional care than plastic dishes, so they shouldn’t be put in the dishwasher. But they’re easy to handwash in soapy water (something your children can help with!).

Are Wooden Spoons Better Than Plastic?

Wooden spoons are much more durable than plastic, and they don’t release microplastics and hormone disruptors into our food. They are generally considered much better options than plastic and are better for the earth and our communities. Wood is heat-resistant, has natural antibacterial properties, and adds beauty to your space.
