Beeswax Advent Candles to Welcome the Light of the World

Advent candles tell the story of Christmas in a tangible way that invites the whole family to join in. They light our way through Advent, reminding us of the prophets, shepherds, and angels who anticipated the arrival of Jesus. Each candle has its own meaning, and when lit, becomes a symbol of the presence of God among us.

So many things that bees create have bountiful healing properties. Whether beeswax candles hold these same properties is yet to be discovered. But we do know they’re much safer than petroleum-derived products. Beeswax candles burn slower, are drip-resistant, hold a natural scent, and don’t release pollutants or chemicals.

The Ingredient Glossary

Beeswax

Beeswax

Packed with nutrients, we really love beeswax for its holding power. It creates a soft, breathable barrier that keeps moisture in the skin. It helps with skin elasticity, cell health, and hydration, and it’s always our first choice for sensitive skin. We source our wax from pure honeycomb cappings, harvested at local apiaries practicing regenerative agriculture.
Cotton Wicks

Cotton Wicks

Our candles are made with unbleached 100% cotton wicks. With no metal cores or extra processing, they'll burn cleanly and beautifully in your home.
ECO Dyes

ECO Dyes

ECO candle dyes have a vegetable-derived base with no parabens or phthalates. We love the rich but natural color they give to beeswax.

Your Use and Care Guide

Light an additional candle every Sunday of Advent. For an even burn, keep your candles away from drafts and vents, and allow the candles to melt well before putting them out. It’s best to trim the wick to 1/4th inch before each burn. Always keep candles in secure, heat-resistant candle holders and 3 inches apart when burning.

Container & Size Info

Meet the Makers

Danielle is a Catholic mom of six with a deep desire to serve the Lord with her family, home, and creative work. She and her husband, Vincent, have spent many years in foreign missions, working with the poor and sharing Jesus across India and Mexico. Beeswax candle making is a family activity, and the reward is extra candles during the cold days between Christmas and Lent. Each candle sale helps fund the family’s trip back to Northern Mexico, where they plan to do home visits, prayer meetings, work projects, and build a family culture around sharing Jesus.

What’s the Significance Behind Advent Candles?

In the weeks leading up to Christmas, we light Advent candles every Sunday to anticipate the coming of Jesus. In Christian tradition, fire symbolizes the light of the Resurrection and the presence of the Holy Spirit. Lighting Advent candles reminds us that God is with us, even in the waiting. It’s also a beautiful tradition that helps littles remember how many days are left until Christmas.

Two purple candles are lit first, symbolizing prophecy and preparation. Then the pink candle reminds us of the closeness of Jesus’ arrival. Finally, we light the last purple Advent candle to represent God’s divine love for us.

How to Light Advent Candles

Place your Advent candles in a wreath (this represents the eternal nature of God). Then, to prepare for the coming of Jesus, you’ll light a new candle each Sunday of Advent.

The first purple candle (week 1): This is the prophecy candle that represents the Old Testament prophets, who foretold the coming of Jesus. With the light of this candle, we remember that God keeps His promises.

The second purple candle (week 2): This is the Bethlehem candle, and we light it to remember to prepare a place for Jesus to arrive. In the same way that Bethlehem welcomed Jesus, we welcome Him in our hearts.

The pink candle (week 3): The shepherd’s candle symbolizes rejoicing. We celebrate the close arrival of Jesus and prepare our hearts to welcome Him with joy.

The third purple candle (week 4): This is the angel’s candle, and it represents God’s divine love for us. We remember the angels who brought us good news of great joy, and we celebrate the divine child who came to save us from sin.

Why Are Advent Candles Purple and Pink?

Purple symbolizes repentance, spiritual preparation, and fasting. Lighting purple candles is somber and reverent and reminds us that waiting is never easy. In some traditions, purple also represents royalty and the anticipation of the King of Kings.

The pink candle is lit on Gaudete Sunday, the halfway point of Advent. In Latin, Gaudete means rejoicing, and this Sunday marks the transition from reverence to joy. The pink candle represents the nearness of Christ and the warmth we feel receiving Him.

Why Do You Use Beeswax for Advent Candles?

Modern candles are made from petroleum derivatives or soy wax and mixed with synthetic fragrance and dyes that can pollute indoor air quality. Instead, we use beeswax candles because they’re natural and considered safer. Beeswax candles melt at a higher heat point. They’re resistant to drips, have a longer burn time, and burn clean. They smell lightly of honey and flowers, and shouldn’t bother people with chemical or fragrance sensitivity.
