All About Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil (pronounced “ho-HO-ba”) is technically not an oil at all! It’s a liquid wax, pressed from the seeds of a desert shrub. The INCI name is “Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil.” In our products, we use certified organic jojoba oil from Arizona, grown on marginal land that is not hospitable to growing other crops. After the seeds fall, they are collected and cold-pressed in an expeller. The oil is then filtered, washed with water and clays, and filtered a final time. We love being able to source it from the US, from a high quality producer that owns every step of their supply chain.

Like tallow, jojoba oil mimics the natural composition of oils on our skin, which is why it’s so popular for skincare. Studies have shown anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antioxidant properties. Many people with acne-prone skin love its lightweight texture and low rating on the comedogenic scale (not likely to clog pores). Due to being a wax, it is also extremely shelf-stable and is not prone to oxidation (going rancid).

We use jojoba oil in our Vanilla Bean Tallow Butter, Calendula Tallow Butter, and Rejuvenate Facial Tallow Butter.
