How to Use Tallow for the Best Results
When you jump into using tallow on your skin, here are our top tips for the best possible results.
1. Start with a very small amount.
Tallow can easily feel greasy if you use too much. Start with a pea-sized amount, rub it into the skin, and then try more if you think you need it. Any greasy feeling should disappear in a few minutes. Depending on the temperature and consistency of the balm, you may need to warm it up in your fingers first.
2. Apply to damp skin.
Our tallow products do not contain water (the combination of water and oils requires emulsifiers and preservatives). Instead, tallow enhances the skin’s natural barrier to seal moisture into the skin and prevent it from evaporating. If your skin is already damp, tallow will lock in that moisture. You can either apply tallow immediately after cleansing, or try a hydrosol or toner step to dampen your face.
Just don’t put wet fingers into the jar, since water can lead to bacterial growth!
3. Exfoliate regularly.
Since tallow promotes skin regeneration, you will want to exfoliate regularly to remove dead skin cells and avoid pore clogging. Experiment to find the best rhythm for your unique skin, but one to two times a week is a good place to start. If you don’t have a go-to exfoliation method yet, try using a clean washcloth, rubbing your skin in very gentle circles for about a minute before rinsing.
