All About Our Tallow

Our tallow is sourced from 100% grass-fed and finished cows, raised regeneratively, organically, & locally. They graze pastures that are managed holistically, with a goal of restoring and improving the ecosystem, rather than depleting it. The cows do not receive antibiotics, hormones, or mRNA vaccines.

Rendering

We use only suet (also called kidney fat or leaf fat), the harder fat around the kidneys of the animal. Before grinding, we trim out any remaining meat to retain only the pure fat. Once the suet is ground, we render it in small batches so it’s as fresh as possible. Some other tallow makers purchase their tallow already rendered, but we prefer to do everything ourselves, with complete control over the process.

To render the suet into tallow, we use techniques we’ve perfected (through both research and trial + error) to process it as minimally as possible while getting any beefy smell out. Then it’s time to turn it into nourishing skincare!
